Almost There, Yet Not Quite

Verdict - An Adult film that starts promising;ly, but ends up being lame
Desi Boyz represents all that is hypocritical and farcical with Hindi Cinema.
So you have two guys, out of jobs due to recession, who do not find any other means of earning a livelihood other than turning into escorts (and not strippers-more on that later). This idea was obnoxious when in Laaga Chunari Mein Daag Rani takes to the trade of flesh on not finding work, the idea is equally unbelievable now in Desi Boyz. And yes, since they are Indian's living abroad, they take to the trade only cause of Majboori- a nephew and a high maintenance girl friend. One wonders when we would get rid of these stereotypes in our scripts.
Despite this story line, Desi Boyz keeps you engaged in the frist half. Akshay and John definitely share an amazing chemistry and Akshay has put in one his most sincere performances in recent times. Deepika and Chitramgadha do not have much to do, and they manage to look pretty and prim whenever required.
Post intermission, however, the film throws out any pretense of being a Hatke breezy comedy and spirals into irreverent and painful melodrama. The scenes are forced, the emotions fake and every other scene cringe worthy.
Having said that, Desi Boyz is not a bad watch. Pretty locales, beautiful people, decently funny and less offending scenes and some nice tunes make it watchable. For a newcomer, Rohit Dhawan does nothing that would leave a mark though. Watch it if you have nothing else to do this weekend.
