Verdict - A must view of a powerful social drama.

Toilet: Ek Prem KathaWatch trailerRelease date : August 11, 2017

Rarely does one view a ' perfect structured film'.TEPK falls in this category.
Why? Presence of toilets in households and public spaces, more so in rural/ semi urban locales is a desirable goal.Despite lofty pronouncements from the top ,it's percolation at the ground level is a drop in the ocean.
Whose responsible for this state of affairs? One,we the people are our own enemies.Deeproted orthodoxy, the beneficiaries( in particular the women ) being docile , the sab chalte hai attitude and the misuse of state funded toilets for commercial interests .Two,the corruption in the implementation machinery which is seldom transparent despite we as a nation thumping our 'acheivements' in the 70th year of independence.
Who takes the onus of ensuring that goods are delivered? One ,a well educated Jaya( Bhumi Pednekar) who is so committed to the cause even if it means seeking a divorce from her husband Keshav( Akshay Kumar). It's only in the second half that the husband also becomes a willing partner.
The solid proses? A committed cause put to it's powerful presentation by the director( Shree Narayan Singh in his debut).the duo of screenplay writers( Siddharth and Garima),the all round good performances ( Bhumi takes the gold ,Akki the silver,Sudhir Pandey,Anupam Kher,Shubha Khote,Kimti Anand ,Divendu Sharma and Rajesh Sharma the bronzes). Each shot is ' kya scene hai'.The viewers empathize with the challenges faced by both the main characters. But for the media things won't have been speeded up.The new pairing of Akki and Bhumi is the X factor. The movie is destined to be in the award winning category in several departments.
The cons? One would have preferred the number ' Mat Hus Pagle/ Pagli ' to be full blown rather than just left in the hanging with the opening lines ( Seldom do we hear soothing melody in the voices of Shreya and Sonu). Also, the heads should have roled of the corrupt on the eve of the independence day in the climax.
Just a few observations? The movie could hit the jackpot by the word of mouth.Surely, many women would want to be in the audience.Akki has increased his fan following .Bhumi will also after scoring a 'double' with Dum Lagake Haisha earlier, now with the Toilet. One has never seen ' love at first sight' outside the washroom in a running train. The movie needs to be tax exempt.
All in all TEPK is a land mark movie. Not to be missed.
