Child actress Suhani Bhatnagar’s tragic demise at the age of 19 has plunged the entire entertainment industry into a state of gloom and shock. She was known for playing the younger version of Babita Phogat in the blockbuster 2016 film Dangal. Her father Sumit Bhatnagar has now revealed the reason behind his daughter’s unfortunate passing.

According to a news report in PTI, he revealed that Suhani was suffering from dermatomyositis which is a rare inflammatory disease that causes skin rash and muscle weakness. She was admitted to the AIIMS Hospital in Delhi on February 7 and died on February 16 owing to health complications. The late actress’ father was quoted as saying, “She developed a red spot on her hands about two months ago. We thought it was an allergy and we consulted with doctors in different hospitals in Faridabad but it couldn't be diagnosed. When her condition started deteriorating, we got her admitted to AIIMS. But there was no improvement and her lungs were damaged due to accumulation of excess fluid.”

Her last rites were performed at the Ajronda cremation ground on Saturday (February 17). She lived in Faridabad with her parents and had taken a break from acting to complete her education. Aamir Khan’s production house mourned her loss by releasing a statement that said, “We are deeply saddened to hear about our Suhani passing away. Our heartfelt condolences to her mother Poojaji and the entire family. Such a talented young girl, and such a team player, Dangal would have been incomplete without Suhani. Suhani, you will always remain a star in our hearts. May you rest in peace.”

Director Nitesh Tiwari who helmed Dangal also paid tribute to Suhani and said, “Suhani's passing away is absolutely shocking and heartbreaking. She was such a happy soul, so full of life. My deepest condolences to her family.” Her Dangal co-stars Zaira Wasim and Sanya Malhotra also remembered in heartwarming posts.
